Future Aspiration

FUTURE ASPIRATION!!

Surprisingly, we (Team 5) had some visitors come to the intermediate block today. They came to inspire us and encourage us to make our own choices and to stick to what we want to do not what your friends want to do. The visitors names were Andrew Patterson, Jason Sharma, Alfred Faireka and Arizona Leger.

About them and what they were talking about:

Andrew Patterson: He is a radio person. He works for himself. The name is Sunday Business with Andrew Patterson.

He talked about how he became a radio person and how it all started. He was also the Host and the introducer to the visitors.

Jason Sharma: He is a first year maths teacher at Tamaki College, he is Samoan and Indian, and he graduated Teach First NZ programme.

He talked about his parents and what he used to do before wanting to be a maths teacher…. He also said why he wanted to be a maths teacher…..

Alfred Faireka: He is a police officer at Auckland G.I!!!.... He is Cook Island and he plays sport. He used to play Rugby League but now he plays Tag (Ripper Rugby). He said that you can travel to return people back to their countries and that you can stay there for a while and check out somethings then come back. He talked to us about what it is like being a police and it sounded pretty. He also told us about the names of the things you can do being a police and the names were

Arizona Leger: She is a journalist… Well, she is studying journalism. She was the school captain in primary, Head girl at E.G.G.s (Epsom. Girls. Grammar. School). She is a pacifica…. Samoan, Fijian, Tongan and Maori. She is a very talented girl and she also has a lot of energy in her. She talked about how she used to talk a lot in primary, intermediate, college and get in trouble. And she also talked about what happened in those years.

The person that inspired me the most was Arizona Leger because of the things she was talking about. My favorite thing that she talked to us about was the Handie 5!!!. Why?? Because they were good things to do in your life and it was funny too.

The Handie 5!!! were

What she said might help me some day when I get older. To be honest but she is a bit like me because I always talk during class and then I get in trouble and get moved into another desk.

A.F.L

On Wednesday, last week, my class went to A.F.L for the first time. We also had our second lesson this week on Wednesday.

What is A.F.L??

A.F.L is a sport. It stands for Australian. Football. League. You learn a lot of things and you have a lot of fun too.

What we did:

On the first time, we learnt the 4 rules on Drop punt.

1. Laces away from faces

2. X's up and down

3. Straight hands

4. Toes at the direction you want the ball to go

After that, we played a game and played kicks. The game we played, was a game how long hair people vs the short hair people. I was in the long hair team.

What we had to do was:

1. Kick the ball to the other team and make sure that no one catches it

2. Make sure that it doesn't go into the river

3. Don't go into the river

The game was awesome. Also when we played kicks, it was fun because we got to kick the ball anywhere we wanted it to go.

This week, our instructor was Tim. The lesson we did was the:

1. Ice cream scoop

2. Pirate dance

What you had to do on the Ice cream scoop was

1. Put your palm like a dinner plate

2. Put a ball on it

3. With other hand, grab an ice cream cone squeeze it in your hand

4. Then squash the ice cream onto the ball and the the ball will fly away

What you had to do on Pirate dance was

1. dance like a pirate and ARRR like a pirate too

2. Have the ball on one hand

3. Punch your other hand on the ball and the ball will go flying

After all the lessons, we had a game and it was fun. We had to have a partner and the game was a competition. we had to see how many Ice cream scoop and pirate dances we can do without the ball touching the floor.

Everyone was having fun and telling the truth about how many they got.

After all the fun we had, we had to go back to class and have lunch. It was awesome and we can’t wait till the next lesson next week.

Year 7 & 8 Social

Last Thursday, the yr 7 & 8 planned a social. It was happening at night..... (6pm - 8:30pm). Everyone was pumped, so excited and couldn't wait to go social. The theme was movie characters.

What is a Social??

Social is like a gathering, little party, a disco, dance and other things that you would like to call it.

During school, I couldn't stop thinking about the social. I even imagined it...(But in my head.) I couldn't wait till the social. At school, the talks were all about the social and the clothes. At morning tea and lunch, every where I go, I would here the word social or things about social..... It was freaking me out and annoying.

"WOW!!!" I said... "The day has gone fast. It is already after school." So I ran to my house, had a shower, chosen my clothes, did my hair and then ate. It was a lot to do. Suddenly, I just started getting hot, nervous and sort of excited. 

Before I left, my grandma did a prayer.. Right near the end, I could here someone calling my name... It was my friend. I forgot to tell you that my friend was picking me up to take me to the social. 

Well back to the story.... Straight after the prayer, I told my grandparents that I was going. Then my grandma asked "Who are you going with??" I said that I was going with my friend and she said.... "Where is she?" I said she was out side then she said "Ok.... have a good time!!!."

So I left and I asked her if she wants to go to the shops and she said yes so we went there before we went to the social. After that, we went to school. We had to hang out first because they hadn't open the hall yet..(Where we were having our social.)

Once we got in, It was dark, lights were shining and music was playing loud. I knew we were going to have a awesome time that night. As I was dancing with the other crew, more people started to show.... Even my cousin and the rest of my friends. While people were dancing, people were buying things like drinks and chips. 

It was wild and crazy in there because people were dancing hard out and having fun. During all the dancing, people were doing dance competitions and singing competitions.

Near the end, we had a slow dance and it was so romantic. People were dancing with each other.... As in people I mean girls and boys as partners.

OOHHH!! I was the end of social. At the end, the whole hall was messy so we had to clean it up and then go home. My mum picked me up and my uncle picked up his son... ( My cousin.)

Swimming

It was an incredible week last week... Why?? Because we had swimming. Everyone loves swimming right!!
I was so excited to go swimming because I love the water and because I want to learn how to swim properly. I missed out the first day because I couldn't find my togs but the next day, I found them and went to swimming.

Waiting and waiting, I was so pumped and ready for swimming lessons but I had to wait until 3:00pm. It was so frustrating having to wait.... So I watched the time ticking while I was doing my work.

YYAASS!!!... It was time to go swimming. Walking to the swimming pools, I was so excited, couldn't wait to smell the air in the swimming pool and couldn't wait to get into the water. The first pool I went to was the medium pool then, we went to the big pool. the big pool was a bit cold but I was alright with it.

The first thing we did was swimming with little boards. We had to swim with our hands on the top of the board then on the bottom on the board. After that, we swam with no board, we had to swim with our hands behind our ears, swim with our heads down, swim with arm circles, swim sideways and turn to the side and breath if you need to.

Sometimes when I swim I have to quickly breath because I'm not use to hold my breath for that long. While I was swimming I kept on swimming different directions and getting hit by people when they put their hands out.

Later after the lesson, we had free time and me and my friends were playing, tag, swimming race and finding the rings under water. It was hard to play because people some people were not playing and people were in the way.

Unfortunately,  we had to get out 10 mins after that because we were going to be late back to class... So he quickly hopped out and ran to the changing rooms and got change. Luckily I got out of the changing room quick enough before my class leaves.

A.F.L Sport

Science Road Show

The Science Road Show

O.M.G (Oh My Gosh).... It was awesome at the Science Road Show!!! It had lots of fun projects to play with and there were some explosion things too.

What is a Science Road Show?? 

Well a Science Road Show is when you look at scientific things and projects. There are cool things and awesome things. In the Science Road Show, they tell you about things and they do explosive stuff. It is crazy cool. 

What did we do??

Once we got there, a man came and his name is Shane. He told us to come in the hall and sit down on the seats... (By the way, It happened at Tamaki College.) When we sat down, there were 2 presenters standing there. There names were Ted and Anna...

What were they talking about??
On the first show, they were talking about our body's, oxygen explosions and science stuff. Ted and Anna showed us what happens to our food when it is in our body and what it turns into when it comes out of our body.... They also told us about a plants life and how they grow and more.

Another thing they were talking about was how our muscles work and our heights. Afterwards, we started looking around, looking at the projects, how they made it and how it works. There was a quiz thing that some of us tried.... It was tasting the 5 different Honey's and guess which one it is. I got all of the Honey guess's right.

There is another activity that people were playing... It was the big piano that you can play with your feet and your hands. Meanwhile people were playing that, other people were stamping letters onto these plastic things and they were also playing with the other projects and things.

After looking at all the projects, we had to go and sit down. When we went to sit down, we saw another school.... It was Glen Taylor Intermediate. They were the school after us at the Science Road Show.

On the second show, they were talking about flame, air and that. They blew up 2 balloons. The first once was loud and you can feel the ground shake, and the second one was powerfully loud and you could feel the air hit you when it popped.
That was my favourite part of the Show!!!....

Sadly after all that awesome, crazy and mad stuff, we had to go back to school.

THE END

What I learnt about SOUND!!

I played these games that are about sound!! It had instruments in it. What you had to do is match the sound waves and you have to made the same sound. You have to change the pitch to make the same sound as they give you.

It is easy but sometimes annoying when you keep getting the wrong note.

I learnt how to change the notes and make them higher and lower on the guitar. I learnt that on a pipe it is not about the width it is about the length. I also learnt how to tune a guitar and a bongo.

My Goal for this Term

Managing Myself

I am going talk about Managing Myself because sometimes I need to Manage

Managing Myself means keeping on task and doing the right things @ the right time with the right attitude. It also means, Taking charge of your self and listening to what the teacher tell you to do.

Lately, I haven’t been on the right things and at the right times. Sometimes in school, I haven’t been using the right attitude around people and to people. I think I need to change my attitude in class.

I sometimes be naughty and bad in all the subjects in class. When i'm bad, I sometimes get taken to my principal and then I hear the teachers saying that this is not me and they were shocked when they heard about me.

I hate having to go to my principal's office and I hate being bad and mean but sometimes it just happens.

That is my goal for this term!!!

Badminton

Badminton

Today, we had our first Badminton session….. It was awesome!!! We had a lot of fun and I mostly had a lot of fun because it was my first time playing Badminton. It was a bit tricky but I got it after all.

Once we got to the hall, we sat down and waited for our instructor to talk to us. He spoke and told us his name…. His name is Robby!!! After that, he told us the rules and then he handed out the Rackets and the Shuttlecocks. While we were holding our Rackets and Shuttlecock, he showed us 2 moves…. The moves were called Forehand and Back Hand!!!!.

We began playing with the moves he showed us and then after that, he told us to get a partner. My partner was one of my best friends Hannah. we played this game and this is how you play it…. So you and your partner stands across from each other, then you start playing and see whose partner is the last one standing. But you are competing with the other players too.

We played it a couple of times then we stopped. After all the fun, we returned the Rackets and Shuttlecocks back to Robby and said “good bye” and “see you next week” then we left.

We had an awesome day at Badminton and we can’t wait to go back next week.

Immersion Assembly

Introduction

I cant believe that it is the first day of TERM 2.... I cant wait to see my friends at school!!!! I'm so excited..

On my way to school, I was so excited because I haven’t seen my friends in 2 weeks + 2 days.

At school, I couldn't hold it in any more so I went looking for my friends and once I found them, I gave them a big hug. “OHHH NNNOOO!!! Its is nearly time for Immersion Assembly!!!!” I moaned.

Running into the hall, I saw my class sitting down so I ran and sat down on the spare chair that was next to my friends. As I sat down, they started hugging me and they were so excited that I was there. Once I was on my seat, they started Assembly.

I couldn’t wait to see what we were learning about and I also couldn't wait to see the Teams perform what they are learning this term.

It started and my principal told us our topic for this term. The topic is “I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT!!!!.” After he said that, he introduced team 1 on to the stage.

Team 1

One of the team 1 teachers stood up and said that instead of performing they are going to show a movie. The movie was them at the zoo looking at some animals. It was a cool movie because there were animal statues & animals on their movie. The animal i liked on the movie was the giraffe because I liked how it came out of its house.

After the movie, it was time for team 2

Team 2

Team 2’s theme was Flying. Their theme song was Those magnificent men in the flying machines. When the team 2 teachers came on the stage, two of them had planes on them, one of them was a pilot and one was a Fairy with a wand. They were dancing and there was a video playing behind them. Suddenly, they stopped dancing and froze. When they froze, the fairy used her powers to unfreeze them and it worked.

Then it was team 3

Team 3

The theme that team 3 did was colours. The colours that were there was blue, orange, pink, purple, green. They were waving around and moving around too. I liked the colours that they used. Do you want to know what my favourite colour was…. Blue!!!. My favourite part in their performance was how Mr Jacobson was wearing a Green cat and all the colours got under it except for the Green colour.

Team 4

This term, team 4 is learning about how to float and how to sink and more things that you do in the water. The teachers in team 4 were wearing things that you would when you go out into the sea. Their item was cool because they had videos to show and had prizes to win. It was awesome!!!

Team 5

Team 5 is my team!!! what we are learning this term is sound. We are learning about how sound works, how to make sound, how to make sound high and how to make sound low. Team 5’s teachers made instruments and they also made a video of them playing instruments. There were lots of instruments they were playing……

After all those teams performed their items, my principal talked about more thing and after that we went to class and enjoyed the rest of our day.
